Indians Rally for Walk Off Win

The Stephens County Indians were down to their last out Thursday night, but with the bases empty the Indians rallied to score twice and complete a 4-3 comeback win over Oconee County at the Reservation.

With two outs and trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Chaz Bridges and Zach Boyd walked, Cole Beitzel singled Bridges home with the tying run, and Dawson Dean’s infield single scored Eli Wenger with the winning run.

The Indians trailed 3-0 after four innings and had managed only two hits off Warriors starting pitcher Luke Dickens. Davis Swenson led off the fifth inning with a single and moved to third when Austin Page reached on an error. Dawson Sorrells singled home Swenson, but later was caught in a rundown between first and second, and Page was thrown out at home. Bryson Fowler followed with a single scoring Sorrells and trimming the lead to one setting up the 7th inning heroics.

Sorrells picked up the win on the mound to move to 5-0 on the season, going seven complete, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four.

Sean Hogg got the loss in relief for the Warriors.

Stephens County improves to 2-0 in Region-8 AAAA and 16-1 overall. Oconee County is now 0-2 in the Region, and 5-10 overall.

The two teams will meet again on Friday with the Indians looking for a sweep. Airtime is set for 5:45 P.M. with first pitch scheduled for 5:55 P.M. on WNEG.
