Indians Limping Heading to Region

It is the time of season that you would like to be peaking, but the Stephens County Indians dropped a 4th straight game falling to Banks County 5-1 on Saturday at the Reservation in the final game before Region-8 play.

The Indians jumped out to a short-lived early lead in the bottom of the 1st inning when Dawson Sorrells walked to lead off the inning and scored on a Davis Swenson single.

Unfortunately, that was the only hit the Indians would have until a Ridge Adams double in the 7th inning. Banks County pitcher Roman Haynes kept the Indians off balance all game going 7 complete innings and allowing just the run on 2 hits and striking out 6.

Banks County scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning, and added a run in the 5th and 7th.

Gabe White started the game for the Indians and took the loss to fall to 2-2 on the season. White allowed 3 runs on 3 hits and struck out 5 in 3 innings of work. Jordan Page and Josh Henshaw pitched in relief.

The Leopards improved to 12-2 on the season. Stephens County falls to 7-6-1.

Now is when every game counts as the Region-8 season begins on Tuesday at St. Pius. The Indians will travel to Atlanta on Tuesday and then host the Golden Lions in a doubleheader on Friday. The other Region-8 match-up this week will be Madison County and North Oconee.

WNEG will broadcast Tuesday’s game in Atlanta. Airtime for Stephens County-St. Pius will be 4:45 P.M. with first pitch at 5 P.M.
