Indians lead 8 AAA after Bulldog shutout
The Stephens County Indians moved to 8-0 on the season and took sole possession of first place in region-8 AAA with a 35-0 shutout win over rival Hart County Friday night in Hartwell.
The Indians grabbed the lead early in the first quarter when Hart County fumbled the opening possession recovered by Stephens County defensive lineman Jakob Lunsford setting up a two-yard touchdown run by Javin Gordon.
The Indians would score three more times in the 2nd quarter to blow the game open. Aidan Butts scored on an eight-yard shovel pass from Tripp Underwood. On Hart County’s next possession Da’Von Swinton took an interception 40 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0. Underwood’s second touchdown pass of the half connecting with Jasec Smith from 9 yards out completed the first half scoring to make it 28-0 at the half.
The Indians would add one more score in the 2nd half on a Brock Tankersley 9-yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter.
Not only did the Indians defense earn the shutout but also limited Hart County to just 75 yards.
Stephens County Head Coach Wesley Tankersley was pleased with his team’s efforts.
Stephens County moves to 3-0 in region 8-AAA play. Hart County falls to 2-1 in the region and 4-4 overall.
Stephens County can clinch the region championship next Friday night when they host Oconee County in the final regular season game at the Reservation.
