Indians Have Tough Opening Day in Christmas Tournament

The Stephens County Indians and Lady Indians faced tough teams on Thursday with the hosts falling in both games at Currahee Arena.

The Lady Indians trailed Athens Christian 32-10 at the half and were outscored 39-13 in the 2nd half falling by a final of 71-23. The Lady Eagles, now 10-2 on the season, had 4 players scoring in double figures led by Marlene Mbilima with 21 points.

Aleria Faulkner led the Lady Indians with 8 points and Fayeth Ivester added 7 points for Stephens County now 2-8 on the season.

The Stephens County boys ran into an athletic and talented Athens Academy team and fell by a final score of 74-41. The Spartans, now 11-1 on the season, were led by seniors Justin Goudelock with 22 points and Kymel Williams with 13 points.

Javin Gordon led Stephens County with 11 points and Nuri Winters had 10. The Indians  now have a record of 4-5.

The Christmas Tournament continues at Currahee Arena on Friday with 4 more games. The Habersham Central Girls and Boys will play at 1 P.M. and 2:30 P.M followed by the Stephens County Lady Indians hosting Powdersville, South Carolina at 4 P.M. and the Stephens County Indians boys hosting Athens Christian at 5:30 P.M. WNEG will broadcast the Indians games with airtime set for 3:45 P.M.
