Indians Get Win Over Lions

Stephens County’s lone loss of the season was last week in Carnesville-a 10-0 five inning run rule loss to neighbor Franklin County. This time it was the Indians turn to finish with a smile.

Stephens County got some timely hits early and good pitching to hold off the Lions 5-3 Wednesday night at the Reservation.

Franklin County got on the board first when Zac Hill walked, stole second,moved to third on an error, and scored when Landon Bentley reached on an error.

The Indians came back with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning. Austin Page and Dawson Sorrells had bloop singles, and Bryson Fowler singled scoring Page. Dawson Dean bunted and a throwing error scored Sorrells. Chaz Bridges RBI Fielder’s choice scored Cayden Maxwell running for Fowler, and Dean scored on Zach Boyd’s RBI single.

Franklin County came back to within one with runs by Bo Morgan in the 2nd and 4th innings, but the Indians got an insurance run in the 5th when Fowler walked, Ben Hobbs running for Fowler stole second, and scored on Boyd’s 2nd RBI.

Gabe White pitched into the 4th inning to get the win and improve to 3-0. Davis Swenson was outstanding in relief holding the Lions scoreless for 3 and 2/3 innings.

Grayson York took the loss. The Lions are now 4-4 on the season.

Stephens County improves to 11-1 and will travel across state lines to face Walhalla, SC Thursday night. Airtime is set for 6:15 P.M. with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 P.M. on WNEG.
