Indians Get Big Region Win

The Stephens County Indians got a much needed Region-8 win at home Wednesday night defeating Oconee County 6-2.

The Indians scored 3 runs in the 1st inning, 2 in the 2nd, and 1 in the 4th.

Oconee County got on the board in the top of the 1st scoring on an error, but the Indians came right back to grab the lead in the bottom of the inning aided by 2 Warrior errors.

Dawson Sorrells led off with a walk, Cayden Maxwell singled and the ball got by the Centerfielder scoring Sorrells from 1st. Maxwell scored when Davis Swenson reached on an error. Ben Hobbs running for Swenson went from 1st to 3rd on a Ridge Adams single, and scored on Isaiah Martin’s fielder’s choice RBI.

The Indians would score 2 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Carson Brock led off the inning with a double, reached 3rd on a wild pitch, and scored on Jordan Page’s RBI sacrifice fly. With two outs, Eli Wenger and Cayden Maxwell had back to back walks, and Wenger scored when Swenson reached on an Oconee County error.

Oconee County scored in the top of the 4th to make the score 5-2, but the Indians answered in the bottom of the inning when Wenger singled, and scored on Swenson’s RBI double.

Swenson was outstanding on the mound for the Indians pitching the complete game and allowing only 1 earned run on 5 hits and striking out 3 to go to 5-2 on the season. Joe Waddell got the loss for the Warriors.

Stephens County improves to 2-5 in Region-8 play and 12-11-1 overall. Oconee County falls to 4-3 in the Region, and 18-6 overall.

The two teams will meet in a doubleheader in Watkinsville on Thursday. The games were scheduled for Friday, but moved up a day due to rain in the forecast. Airtime Thursday is set for 4:45 P.M. with first pitch for game one at 5 on WNEG.
