Indians Game Stopped and Called Final in Christmas Tournament

The Stephens County Indians and Lady Indians came away without a win in as hosts of the Christmas Tournament at Currahee Arena.

On Friday night in the boy’s game with 7:45 left to go in the game, a verbal altercation took place between fans and one of the officials and the game was halted.

Following a discussion with the officials and the school administrators, Athletic Director Chuck King made an announcement that the game was over. Athens
Christian was leading by a score of 46-28 when the game was called.

Nuri Winters was the leading scorer in the game with 16 points, including four three-point shots.

Hampton Ford was the leading scorer for Athens Christian with 12 points.

The loss drops the Indians to 4-6 record while Athens Christian goes to 7-6 on the season.

 

In the girls game, the Powdersville, SC, girls outscored the Stephens County Lady Indians 19 to 7 in the third quarter to cruise to a 50-39 win over Stephens County.

Playing without two of their regular starters, the Lady Indians were able to hang with their opponent until the latter stages of the second quarter. Aleria Faulkner led
the Lady Indians with 11 points and Samiya Scott chipped in with 7 points.

The Lady Patriots of Powdersville,SC, were led by Ella Davidson, who came off the bench and scored all of her 12 points in the second half.

Stephens County’s girls are now 2-9 on the season while the Powdersville girls are 5-8.

Next game for the Indians and Lady Indians will be Tuesday afternoon at the Currahee Arena when Rabun County comes in to make up a game that had to be postponed earlier in the month.

Game time Tuesday will be 4:30 P.M. with airtime on WNEG set for 4:15 PM.
