Indians Finish First Half Region Season with Winning Record

The Stephens County boys’ basketball team finished the first half of the Region-8 AAA season defeating Hebron Christian 51 to 46 Tuesday night at Currahee Arena.

Corey Richie had 14 points to lead the Indians while Javin Gordon chipped in with 11.

Blake Wilson, a 6-5 junior, led the Lions in scoring with 25 points.

The Indians ran their region 8-AAA record to 3-2 and now 10-8 overall.

Hebron Christian drops to 1-4 in region play and 7-12 overall.

 

In the earlier girls’ game, the Lady Lions of Hebron Christian, the state’s #1 girls’ basketball team in any classification this week, proved the experts to be right as they crushed the Stephens County Lady Indians 88- 8.

The Lady Lions jumped out to a 30 to 1 first period lead and never looked
back.

Amiya Porter led Hebron Christian with 18 points, followed by Kerra Butler with 17.

Stephens County only scored four points in the first half, none in the third quarter and four more in the final period.

Maddie McGee was the high scorer for Stephens County with five points.

The Lady Indians are now 3-16 on the season and 1-4 in region play.

Hebron Christian improved to 19-0 on the season and 5-0 in the region.

The Region schedule continues Friday night for the Indians and Lady Indians when they host the Franklin County Lions.

Tipoff for the girls’ game is set for 7 P.M. and broadcast time on WNEG will be 6:45 P.M.
