Indians Fall to Lions in Region Opener

The Franklin County Lions received an outstanding effort from pitcher Lawson Gailey, and took advantage of some Stephens County errors with timely hits to defeat the Indians 5-3 in the Region-8 opener for both teams.

Stephens County struck first scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Ayden Garmon reached on an error and moved to third on a one out double by Carson Worley. Cruz Mullinix followed with a double scoring both Garmon and Worley. With two outs in the inning Garrett Burgess singled to score Bailey Stowe, who was running for Mullinix, and the Indians led 3-0.

Franklin County scored one run in the 2nd inning and 3 runs in the 3rd aided by three Stephens County errors and three RBI’s by JD Ginn.

The Lions scored one more in the 4th and rode the arm of Gailey who struck out 15 in the complete game win without a walk, and allowing three runs on six hits.

Mullinix pitched outstanding in the loss allowing just one earned run and six hits in five innings of work with three strikeouts and two walks. Garmon came on and faced just three batters in the 6th inning.

It was the 12th straight win for Franklin County now 12-1 on the season and 1-0 in Region-8 play. Stephens County falls to 0-1 in the region and 5-7 overall.

The two teams will meet in a doubleheader on Friday at Stephens County. Airtime for game one is set for 4:45 P.M. with first pitch at 5 P.M. on WNEG.
