Indians Fall to Falcons

Stephens County drops a second straight non-region football game.

Three touchdown runs from Malik Damons led Flowery Branch to a 31-6 win over the Indians in Flowery Branch Friday night.

“We have to just keep our head up and keep working,” said Indians’ Head Coach Frank Barden. “The goal is to get into the state playoffs. We haven’t hit region play yet, so for anybody to get down is crazy. We are a football team that is trying to overcome adversity and come out and compete. Flowery Branch is a must-improved team. Everybody on our schedule is much improved.”

Flowery Branch scored first on a 38-yard field goal from Alexander Sanchez. Then, Damons’ first touchdown run of the night from four yards out made it 10-0 in favor of the Falcons after one quarter.

Damons scored his second touchdown on a six-yard run in the second quarter to make it 17-0, Flowery Branch.

That is where it stayed until the fourth quarter, when Damons scored from seven yards out to make it 24-0, Flowery Branch.

The Falcons extended the lead to 31-0 a few minutes later on a 64-yard touchdown run by Malik Drayton.

Stephens County got on the board late on a seven-yard touchdown run by Jackson Bell after Bell converted a fourth and long with a pass completion to Gabe White.

The loss drops the Indians to 1-2 on the season. Meanwhile, Flowery Branch moves to 3-0 with the win.

Stephens County is back on the road Friday night to take on Habersham Central. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. and coverage on WNEG begins at 6:30 p.m. with the Indian Road Show, followed by Coach’s Corner at 7 p.m. and pre-game coverage from the stadium at 7:15 p.m.
