Indians Fall Short in Football Pre-Season Game-Softball Wins Openers

Elbert County’s Xavier Jones scored two touchdowns during the JV period to lead the Blue Devils to a 22-10 victory over Stephens County Friday night in Elberton.

Jones scored on a 20 yard TD pass, and took an interception 35 yards for a TD in the final period.

The two teams played to a 10-10 tie during the first three quarters featuring the varsity.

Elbert County got on the board first in the 2nd quarter on a Hickman to Harris TD pass of 40 plus yards to take a 7-0 lead. Stephens County came right back to tie the score with a 45 yard touchdown run by Javon Gordon. Luke Waters added the extra point to tie the score at 7.

Late in the first half Elbert County moved deep into Stephens County territory but had to settle for a 22 yard field goal by Brandon Horne to take a 10-7 lead to the half.

Stephens County provided the only score in the 3rd quarter on a Waters 36 yard field goal.

This was the final tune-up for the Indians with the regular season opener August 18th at Habersham Central.

Elsewhere the Stephens County varsity and JV Softball teams opened their seasons with wins over Elbert County with the varsity taking a 16-4 victory in 4 innings and JV girls winning 6-4.
