Indians Fall Short at Hart

The Hart County Bulldogs held on for a 3-2 win over Stephens County in a pitcher’s duel Wednesday night in Hartwell.

With the score tied at 1-1, Hart County used two infield hits to score the go ahead run in the bottom of the 5th inning, and then added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th to take a 3-1 lead.

Stephens County would rally with two outs in the top of the 7th on Nate Ivester’s infield single, Craig Thurmond’s walk, and Colby Fowler’s RBI single to pull within 3-2. The Indians then loaded the bases, but Hart County reliever Zach Dombrowski induced a ground ball to 2nd base to end the game.

Fowler and Findley Ward led the Indians at the plate with two hits each with RBI’s from Fowler and William Roush

Pearce Mewborn, Ethan Martin, and Corban Robertson had RBI’s for the Bulldogs now 2-8 in Region-8 and 6-11 overall.

Both starting pitchers were outstanding with Hart County’s Avery Strickland going 6 2/3 innings and giving up 2 runs to get the win. Ward suffered the tough loss for the Indians pitching all six innings and allowing only 3 runs on 5 hits.

It was the 7th straight loss for the Indians, now 2-8 in the region and 7-13 overall.

Stephens County will step outside of region play when they host Walhalla, SC on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 P.M. with airtime at 5:20 P.M. on WNEG.
