Indians Fall Again Late in Home Loss to Banks

The Banks County Leopards scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and
scored a come-from-behind win 4-2 over the Stephens County Indians Thursday
night at the Reservation.

The loss was the third late-inning loss for the Indians this season.

The Indians and Leopards went scoreless for the first three innings on Thursday.
Stephens County got a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Tyler Zigan
singled to lead off the inning. Findley Ward sacrificed him to second base with a
bunt and William Roush knocked Zigan home with a single. Banks County tied the
score at 1-1, picking up a run on no hits in the top of the fifth inning. The Indians
went ahead in the bottom of the fifth inning following a double by Christian
Hewitt and a sacrifice fly by Craig Thurmond.

Banks County scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning on two singles,
two hits batsman and two walks.

The Indians got their lead-off hitter on in the bottom of the seventh but could not score.
The Banks County victory was a pitcher’s duel for three innings between Judd
Spear of the Leopards, a Georgia Tech commitment, and Findley Ward, the Indians
sophomore. Ward went 6 and a third innings before giving way to Jack Wilhoit
and Nate Ivester in the final inning. Ward sustained the loss. Austin Anderson
picked up the Banks County win with Owen Miller grabbing the save.

Stephens County is now 3-3 on the season and Banks County is 3-1. Next up for
the Indians is the tri-team doubleheader at Habersham Central on Saturday.

Stephens County’s first game will be with West Hall at 2 P.M. with airtime at 1:45 P.M. That
will be followed by the Indians –Habersham Central game at 5 P.M. with airtime at
