Indians Face Madison Co. As Football Playoff Push Continues

Stephens County will look to wrap up a spot in the state football playoffs tonight.

The Indians are headed on the road to take on Madison County this evening in Danielsville.

Coming into tonight, Stephens County is 6-1 overall on the season and 4-0 in Region 8-AAAA.

Last week, the Indians jumped out to a 41-0 lead and beat Chestatee 55-27 behind four Mason Long to Isaiah Mighell touchdown passes.

With a win tonight, the Indians would clinch a state AAAA football playoff berth.

Meanwhile, Madison County comes into tonight’s game with a record of 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Region 8-AAAA.

Last week, Madison County beat North Hall, 49-20.

The Indians have not lost to Madison County since 1989.

Last year, Stephens County pulled away to beat Madison County in Toccoa, 35-13.

Indians’ Wide Receivers Coach Elijer Martinez said preparation will be key to defeating a senior-laden Madison County team.

“We watched the game last year and Madison really has a good team,” said Martinez. “The thing we talked about this week was they have the same team, we have the same team, basically we just have a new coaching staff. I think the team that prepares will win on Friday night.”

Kick-off from Danielsville is set for 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Coverage on AM 630 WNEG begins at 6 p.m. with Tommy Palmer’s Countdown to Kickoff. Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. and pre-game coverage starts at 7:15 p.m.

The game will also be broadcast online at wnegradio.com.

In other Region 8-AAAA action, Buford visits North Oconee, White County hosts Chestatee, and Monroe Area travels to North Hall.

Elsewhere in the area, Habersham Central visits Johns Creek, Franklin County visits East Hall, and Hart County travels to take on Oconee County, coached by former Stephens County High School head football coach Travis Noland.
