Indians Earn Split in three-team Doubleheader in Habersham

The Stephens County Indians Baseball team won one and lost one Saturday in the Patrick Mayfield Diamond Classic involving three teams at Raider Field in Habersham.

In the Indians first game of the day, Stephens County banged out 11 hits and got a strong pitching performance from Nick Randall to down Banks County 14-1 in five innings.

Randall pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing just one run on one hit and striking out nine. Grant Babbitt got the final out for the Indians.

Randall also helped himself at the plate with a homerun and double and 2RBI’s. The Indians also got 2 RBI’s from Craig Thurmond who had a single, double, and triple, and Ben Stowe and Garrett Pless added 2 RBI’s each.

Dylan White and Ethan Smith also had RBI’s for the Indians who improved to 3-0 on the season. Banks County fell to 2-2 falling 8-1 in the first game of the day to Habersham Central.

In the nightcap, the Indians suffered the first loss of the season falling to Habersham Central 10-3.

The Raiders jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 3 innings. The Indians would close the gap to 4-2 after 4 innings, but the Raiders added 2 runs in the 5th inning and 4 more in the 6th.

Konner Burrell picked up the win on the mound going six innings and allowing just 2 earned runs on 3 hits.

Grant Babbitt picked up the loss for the Indians allowing 3 earned runs in 3 innings of work.

Mason Dawe had 4 RBI’s to lead the Raiders offense, and Burrell and Hunter Tatum added 2 RBI’s each.

Stephens County, now 3-1 on the season was led by Randall with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s.

Stephens County will travel to East Jackson on Monday at 4 P.M. with airtime set for 3:45 P.M. on WNEG.
