Indians Earn First Road Win

The Stephens County Indians Baseball team got the first road win of the season defeating Elbert County 6-3 Tuesday night in Elberton.

William Roush hit a solo home run, and Cruz Mullinix and Ayden Garmon split time on the mound to get the win.

The Indians got on the board in the top of the first inning when Carson Worley singled and scored on a Patrick Murray RBI. Elbert County tied the game in the bottom of the first, but the Indians came back with two more runs in the 2nd inning when Mullinix doubled home Colby Fowler, and Sam Austin running for Nick Randall.

After Elbert County tied the game at 3 after 2 innings it was all Indians the rest of the way.

Stephens County took the lead in the 4th inning when Jacob Pruitt reached on one of four Blue Devil errors, went to third on a Worley double, and scored on a Mullinix ground ball.

The Indians made it 5-3 on Roush’s leadoff home run in the 6th inning and added insurance in the 7th on Seth McCollum’s RBI scoring Ethan Smith running for Garrett Burgess.

Mullinix led the Indians with 3 RBI’s, and Stephens County got a RBI from Murray, Roush, and McCollum.

Garmon picked up the win on the mound to improve to 1-2 going 3 and a 1/3 innings allowing no runs and one hit. Mullinix started the game going 3 2/3 innings and striking out five. Caden Brown got the loss for Elbert County.

Stephens County improves to 3-5 on the season. Elbert County falls to 2-3.

The Indians will return to the diamond on Thursday at Rabun County. The game was scheduled for Friday, but moved due to the Rabun County Lady Cats Basketball team advancing to the State AA semi-final scheduled for Friday.

Airtime for Thursday’s Stephens County-Rabun County game is set for 5:20 P.M. with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 P.M.
