Indians Drop Region Opener-Next Up Doubleheader on Thursday

The Stephens County Indians dropped their Region 8-AAA series opener to the
Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes 11-5 Monday night at the Reservation.

Monroe scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Indians tied it up in
the bottom of the second inning. Monroe went on to score three runs in the third
inning, three more in the fourth, two in the fifth, and another run in the seventh
inning.

The Indians meanwhile committed five errors in the field.

Ethan Smith knocked in a couple of runs on two groundouts. Konnor Loudermilk,
Findley Ward and Nate Ivester drove in the other runs. On the mound, Hayden
Scott was the starter and took the loss. Parker Ashley, the second pitcher of the
night for Monroe, got the win.

William Roush had two doubles on the evening while Monroe third baseman
Hayden Gmerek had five hits and drove in a run.

The loss dropped the Indians record to 5-6 on the season and 0-1 in region 8-
AAA. Monroe is on a three-game winning streak boosting their record to 3-6 and
1-0 in region 8-AAA.

There has been a schedule change for the doubleheader in the series–the games,
originally set for Friday, have been moved to Thursday in Monroe. First pitch is scheduled for 5 P.M. and broadcast time on WNEG will be 4:45 P.M.
