Indians Drop 2nd Straight

Jefferson scored one run in the top of the first inning and that was all they needed as the Dragons defeated the Stephens County Indians 1-0 Wednesday night at the Reservation.

With one out in the top of the first, Justin Cole singled, advanced to 2nd base on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Lane Watkins.

The Indians threatened a couple of times in the game with runners at 1st and 2nd, but could not get the key hit. Jefferson pitchers Brandon Trefren, Vinny Farley, and Derrick Vaughn limited the Indians to just 3 hits, with Trefren going 5 innings and striking out three to get the win.

Despite getting the loss to fall to 5-1 on the season, Stephens County pitcher Dawson Sorrells was outstanding going all 7 innings, and allowing just two hits after the opening inning and five for the game while striking out six.

Jefferson now sits alone in first place in Region-8 AAAA with a record of 4-1 and 11-6 overall. Stephens County falls to 3-2 in Region play, and 17-3 overall.

The Indians will try to salvage the final game in the series on Friday night at Jefferson. Airtime is set for 5:45 P.M. with first pitch scheduled for 5:55 P.M. on WNEG.
