Indians Bounce Back With Two Wins

The Stephens County Indians Baseball team bounced back from a defeat at Franklin County on Friday night with two home wins on Saturday.

In Game one, the Indians took advantage of Cedar Shoals walks and errors to roll to a 16-0 win in 4 innings.

The Indians scored four runs in the 1st, one run in each of the 2nd and 3rd innings, and ten runs in the deciding 4th inning.

Stephens County got 8 RBI’s from 8 different players in the win.

Dawson Sorrells picked up the win on the mound to improve to 3-0 on the year, allowing just one hit and striking out four.

Will Ellis got the loss for Cedar Shoals as they fell to 0-9 at the end of the day. Cedar Shoals also lost to Hart County 10-0 in game two.

In the nightcap, Stephens County got a strong pitching effort from Davis Swenson, and took advantage of six Hart County errors to win 9-1.

The Indians got a run in the 2nd inning on a Cole Beitzel walk and Cayden Maxwell RBI double. The Indians got another run in the 3rd inning when Austin Page walked and scored on a Bryson Fowler single. After Hart County scored in the top of the 4th, Stephens County scored five more times in the bottom of the inning on 2 hits, two walks, two hit by pitch, and two Hart County errors. Maxwell, Page, Sorrells, Kole Rogers, and Griff Pruitt all scored in the inning.

The Indians added two more runs in the sixth inning when Page scored on three Hart County errors, and Sorrells scored on a Zach Boyd fielders choice RBI.

Swenson got the win to move to 4-0 on the season allowing just one run on five hits in five innings, and striking out nine. Sorrells pitched two innings of one-hit relief.

Stephens County is now 10-1 on the season and will host Franklin County at the Reservation on Tuesday at 5:30 P.M. Airtime will be 5:20 P.M. on WNEG.
