Indians Blank Lions, 37-0

The Stephens County football team heads into a bye week off a region win over an arch rival.

Friday night, the Indians jumped out early and never looked back, shutting out Franklin County, 37-0, in Toccoa.

“Getting this win was big for several reasons,” said Stephens County Head Coach Wesley Tankersley. “A region win is important and after last year, the team really wanted to win this one tonight. It was great to see.”

Indians’ quarterback Ben Stowe started the scoring in the first quarter on a three-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Indians added two more touchdowns on a two-yard run by Stowe and a two-yard run by T.J. Everett, along with a safety, to lead 23-0 at halftime.

The third quarter saw Cam Lacy score two touchdowns on runs, from 20 yards and 10 yards respectively, as the Indians extended their lead to 37-0.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

With the win, Stephens County moves to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the region. Franklin County falls to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the region with the loss.

The Indians are off this week and will return to action on Oct. 22 on the road at Hart County.
