Indians Beat Raiders in Baseball

Stephens County jumps to an early lead and hangs on to beat Habersham Central in non-region baseball play.

The Indians scored five runs in the first two innings Friday night on the road on the way to a 6-3 win over the Raiders.

Habersham cut the Indians’ lead to 5-3 by scoring three runs without a hit in the bottom of the fifth.

However, Kooper Briley’s third hit of the game, an RBI triple, in the bottom of the seventh, gave the Indians an insurance run.

Bryson Fowler picked up the win on the mound for Stephens County, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing three runs and three hits while striking out five and walking two.

Zack Boyd preserved the win for the Indians, pitching 2 2/3 hitless innings.

Jarred Jones pitched a complete game in the loss for the Raiders, allowing six runs, only four of which were earned.

The win moves the Indians to 4-5 on the season, while the Raiders dropped to 2-6 with the loss.

Stephens County returns to the diamond today in Carnesville against Franklin County.

First pitch is set for 5 p.m. with air time on AM 630 WNEG and wnegradio.com set for 4:45 p.m.
