Indians Basketball Season Ends

The Stephens County boys’ basketball season came to a close Wednesday evening, falling to a much taller Wesleyan team 58-45.

Wesleyan was first in the regular season, but the number three seed from region 7-AAA following their play in their Region Tournament.

Wesleyan jumped out to a 14-8 lead in the first quarter and the Indians could never catch up.

The Indians managed to cut the lead to three points in the 2nd quarter but fell behind 31-26 at the half.

Josh Kavel was the high scorer for the Wesleyan Wolves with 23 points. James McGriff tallied 16 for the Wolves.

The Indians had two players in double figures with seniors Corey Richie scoring 16 points and Cam Lacey chipping in with 11 points.

Coach Jeremy Hughes’ club ends the season at 14-13.

Four seniors will be leaving the program after this season. They are Corey Ritchie, Cam Lacey, A.J. Russell and Anthony Harrison.

Wesleyan moves on to the second round of the state tournament when they travel to Sandy Creek, the state’s number one triple A basketball team on Saturday.
