Indians Baseball to Open State Play Today

The Stephens County baseball team opens the GHSA State Playoffs on the road at Rockmart this afternoon.

The Indians, the #4 seed from Region-8 will face the #1 seed from Region-6 Rockmart in a best 2 out of 3 series with a doubleheader beginning at 4 P.M. this afternoon. Airtime for game one on WNEG will be at 3:45 P.M. and game two will follow approximately 20-30 minutes after the completion of game one. If the two teams split today, there will be a deciding game at 1 P.M. on Saturday.

The Indians enter the game with an overall record of 13-15 and made the playoffs on the final day of the regular season with a doubleheader sweep at Monroe Area.

Rockmart finished the regular season at 20-6 overall and dominated region-6 play going 15-1.

Other state playoff games involving the two regions will have the Region-8 champion Franklin County hosting Coahulla Creek, Region-8 runner-up Oconee County hosting Sonoraville, and Hart County on the road at Ringgold.

Other area teams in action include Rabun County at Pace Academy, Banks County hosting Towers, Elbert County hosting Therrell, and Commerce hosting Armuchee.
