Indians and Lady Indians split games against Oconee County

The Stephens County Lady Indians picked up a hard-fought close region win on the road last night in Watkinsville by defeating the Oconee County Lady Warriors, 44 to 41.

After leading most of the game, it was a missed 3-point shot by the Lady Warriors as the buzzer sounded that prevented the game from going into overtime.

Stephens County forced the ball inside to Ranajah Verdell throughout the game, and she responded with 22 total points to lead all scorers.

Kiki Howard added 7, Savana Broska had 6, Breanna Taylor chipped in 5, and NaNa Eades had 4 points.

The Lady Indians improve to 13 & 5 overall and 4 & 1 in Region 8-AAA.

In the boys game, Stephens County led by as many as 5 points early in the 4th period, but could not hold the lead as Oconee County made their free throws down the stretch and won 58 to 52.

D.J. Hampton led the Indians with 15 points, 13 of those in the 1sthalf.

Moochie Morrison added 13 followed by Tyrece Mackie with 10, Corey Ritchie with 9, Kenny Colwell with 3, and Javian Hightower with 2.

The Indians fall to 8 & 9 overall and 2 & 4 in Region 8-AAA.

The Indians and Lady Indians jump right back into action tonight as they host Franklin County at the Currahee Arena—airtime on WNEG will be 5:45 today.
