Indian Boys Win One-Lose One in Weekend Hoops

The Stephens County Indians basketball team suffered their first loss of the season Saturday afternoon at Habersham Central 88-47.  Stephens County only trailed by 3 at the end of the first period but was outscored in the second period 22-7 and could not catch up.  Nuri Winters led the Indians with 19 points.  Habersham’s Enzo Combs led all scorers with 30 points.  The Indians fell to 2-1 on the season while Habersham Central improved to 4- 2.

On Friday night, the Stephens County boys played strong and tough and defeated the Tallulah Falls boys at the Currahee Area 52-41.  Semaj Walker led the Indians with 14 points while playing superb defense and had a number of rebounds.

The Stephens County Lady Indians also fell Saturday afternoon at Habersham 57-36.  The Lady Indians had a slow start, falling behind 15 to 4 after the first period.  Stephens County was led by Tytiunna Tukes with 9 points followed by Aleria Faulkner with 7.  Habersham Central had a big game from Kyia Barrett who scored 21 points.  The Lady Indians fell to 1- 3 on the season while Habersham Central picked up their first win of the season to improve to 1-5.

The Stephens County Lady Indians basketball team lost their home opener Friday night at the Currahee Arena.  Tallulah Falls defeated Stephens County 56-32.  Cold shooting doomed Stephens County in the second half when they only scored 12 points.  Tutiunna Tukes led Stephens County with 14 points.  Fayeth Ivester chipped in with 6 points.  Haygen James was the leading scorer for Tallulah Falls with 20 points. Molly Mitchell of Toccoa had 14 points and Breelan Wood added 13 points for Tallulah Falls.

The Indians and Lady Indians will be back at the Currahee Arena Tuesday night as they host Elbert County.  Varsity girls will tipoff at 6 P.M. with airtime on WNEG Radio at 5:45 P.M..
