Incident involving Toccoa man shot by an arrow has been ruled an accident

A Toccoa man was seriously injured over the weekend after being struck by a crossbow arrow at a residence in Clarkesville.

According to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, 28-year-old Juan Tellez, was taken to the Habersham Medical Center for treatment after he was injured accidentally by an arrow.

He was later transferred to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.

In a press release issued by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, investigators believe 37-year-old Andrew Harrelson, of Clarkesville, was preparing the crossbow at his home on New Liberty Road prior to going hunting with his son later in the morning.

As Harrelson was preparing the crossbow, it accidentally fired an arrow, which traveled through the front door, striking Tellez, who was standing on the front porch.

All evidence indicates that the incident was an accident and that no criminal act had occurred.
