Ida Cox Summer Concert Series to start tomorrow

The Ida Cox Summer Concert series is set to begin tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.

The concerts are every Saturday from June to August and opening acts begin at 7 with main acts following at 8.

Guests can bring their own blankets and chairs to enjoy the concert. Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said that three restaurants are open during the concerts as well.

“We have three downtown restaurants open at the time,” said Crosby. “X Factor, BJ’s and The Rebel will all be serving, in fact, they’ll have tables outside where you can actually order outside and eat outside and listen to the concert while you’re enjoying your supper.”

Crosby said that most of the artists who play in the series are local or regional artists and  there is a variety of genres, including country, jazz, rock and more.

“We have a variety of acts, different genres of music and a lot of people come no matter what the music is because they just enjoy being outside and hearing the music,” said Crosby. “We’re hoping for a really great turn out again this year. I think last year we averaged about 500 for the concerts and so people will just come and just enjoy the concert. We have the dancing as well which is always a lot of fun.”

If there is inclement weather, the concerts will be moved into the Ritz Theatre. Crosby said that if the venue changes, they will announce it on Mainstreet Toccoa’s website.

This Saturday’s feature is Toccoa Jazz, a local band that started as an offshoot of the symphony.
