Ida Cox Music Series Extends to August

While summer may be over for some now that school is back in session, there will still be something to do on Saturday nights in Toccoa because for the very first year, the Ida Cox Summer Concert series is continuing through August.

Main Street Manager Christian Hamilton said that in past years, the series has only been in June and July but due to local popularity, it’s extended for another month.

“For the first time, the full month of August, we’ll be hosting the series every Saturday as well,” said Hamilton. “The reason we’ve done this is because of the feedback in the past several years from attendees, our city commissioners and because of the wonderful turnout. Because of all the support, the city commissioners have increased the budget this year to allow us to do it for the four weeks in August.”

Beginning in June, local and regional artists have come to downtown Toccoa to play music ranging from bluegrass to country to jazz and more, and will continue doing so until August 26.

Hamilton said this has been another successful year so far for the series.

“The Ida Cox music series has gone phenomenally well this summer,” said Hamilton. “The rain has moved us inside the Ritz Theatre for a couple shows but apart from that, we’re incredibly pleased with the turnout we’ve seen, with the acts we’ve booked, the feedback we’ve received and the support of the businesses downtown.”

This Saturday, a variety dance and party band called Split Shot will be playing.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. on Doyle Street downtown and in the event of rain, the concert will move to the Ritz Theatre.

In addition to the live music, the Ida Cox concert series also includes food and beverages.
