Hospital Authority elects new officers; employee turnover drops

At this week’s meeting of the Stephens County Hospital Authority, board members held an internal election to put in place new officers.

The seven-member board includes Clay Fisher, Stan Roberts, Dr. William McDougal, Paul DeFoor, Bo Dotson, Mak McAllister and Phyllis Ayers, who was appointed to fill the board seat left empty by the recent retirement of Authority Board Chairman Mark Wilkinson.

Following the voting, new Authority Board officers include Roberts as Chairman, Fisher as Vice Chairman, Ayers as Secretary/Treasurer and McDougal a member at large.

Also at Monday’s Authority Board meeting, Hospital Human Resources Manager Jessica Blalock gave board members an update on employee retention and turnover.

Blalock told board members that there has been a marked improvement in employee retention, with turnover rates falling significantly over the past two years.

She said that changes in the leadership at the hospital played a large part in the improvement.

Blalock also explained to board members the costs associated with high turnover, and the potential savings that further improvements could mean for Stephens County Hospital.

SC Hospital CEO Van Loskoski spoke following Blalock’s presentation, saying that he credited her work and the improvements in the Human Resources department for the declining turnover rate, and also thanked the board members for their support.

The next meeting of the Stephens County Hospital Authority is scheduled for Monday, November 20.
