Hood recognized as Work-Based Learning Student of the Month

Stephens County High School Junior Carlisa Hood has been named as the September Work-Based Learning Student of the Month for September.

Stephens County Development Authority President and CEO Brittany Ivey says Hood has demonstrated dedication and hard work at her job placement at Captain D’s in Eastanollee, and Captain D’s Area Manager Tyler Pittman said “Carlisa has an exceptional personality and a smile that brightens everyone’s day. She is highly responsible and consistent in her day-to-day work duties. We are extremely proud to have her on our team.”

In addition to her Work-Based Learning placement, Hood is actively pursuing her goal of becoming a teacher by completing the Education as a Profession pathway. Her teacher, LaDonna Bartmas, describes her as the “sunshine in their classroom,” where she welcomes everyone each morning and inspires them to start the day with enthusiasm.

Hood’s diverse interests are reflected in her completion of the Graphic Arts pathway, where she has taken Audio-Video Tech and Film Classes I, II, and III and instructor Bree Tankersley commends her for her leadership skills and diligent work behind the scenes and in front of the camera.

Hood’s academic achievements are equally impressive, Ivey said, noting that Hood is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and HOSA. Outside of her academic pursuits, she is also a member of the cheerleading team at Stephens County High School.

Ivey said, “We are delighted to have Carlisa as a part of our Work-Based Learning program and are confident that she will continue to excel in all her future endeavors.”

Work-Based Learning is a program that allows high-school students to gain experience outside of the classroom and often in a business or industry related to their career pathway.

For two years, SCDA has partnered with Stephens County High School’s WBL program to recognize a high school student every month that is demonstrating tremendous work ethic not only in their workplace, but in their school and extracurricular activities as well.  Students are nominated by their employers, teachers, & work-based learning coordinators.

Once the student of the month is selected SCDA surprises them at work and presents them with gift cards and a yard sign for their employer to display. Bulldog Carwash is partnering with SCDA as a sponsor for the third year in a row by donating free car washes to the students.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a WBL student of the month can contact the SCDA at 706-886-4242.
