High-speed chase on Tuesday ends near Toccoa

WNEG News has received reports of a high-speed chase that ended in Stephens County Tuesday night.

According to reports, the chase started around 9:15 p.m. after Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2002 Jeep Liberty for speeding, following too closely, and failure to maintain lane, on I-85; however, the subject sped up to over 105 mph, leading law enforcement on a chase.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia State Patrol, and Stephens County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the chase.

As the suspect drove into Stephens County, troopers with GSP put down stop sticks; but, was unsuccessful in stopping the suspect.

Shortly after the chase begun, the vehicle was traveling down Old Mize Road when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and wrecked.

Law enforcement were able to apprehend the suspect just outside of Toccoa.

The suspect has not yet been identified.
