“Hidden Figures” to be Shown at The Ritz Before Eclipse

In addition to the eclipse viewing party that Main Street Toccoa is hosting at the Ritz Theatre, they will also be showing a sci-fi movie the day before the eclipse to get everyone excited for all the festivities.

On Sunday, August 20, there will be a showing of Hidden Figures, based on the true story of three women who worked as mathematicians for NASA.

Special Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said they thought this movie would be a good fit to celebrate the eclipse.

“We chose the movie “Hidden Figures” because it deals with NASA and the lives of three very important women who had an important part in the development of our space program,” said Crosby. “We thought it would be a very appropriate movie while everyone’s thinking about astronomy. There will be a lot of people coming to our area so we thought it would be a good thing to invite them to and bring them downtown and just for our community to see it.”

The movie will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and tickets are $1. There will also be concessions available.

Safety glasses for viewing the solar eclipse will be given out at the movie presentation on Sunday as well as at the eclipse viewing party on Monday.
