Heffer nominated to DFACS Board

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners has nominated Lori Heffer to the Department of Family and Children Services Board.

As WNEG News reported earlier, the commission originally tabled the nomination until an interested citizen came forward to fill the seat.

Chairperson Michelle Ivester said she was impressed with how many people came forward to fill the position.

“We have such a great county. When we talked about this last time, and it hit the news, the next day we all had people pouring in to be on this board. And that just shows we have so many individuals in this county that care about kids. So, I was just floored by how many people who actually came forward to put their name in the pot for this position,” she said.

Heffer will fill the unexpired term of Bill Wheeler.

According to County Administrator Phyllis Ayers, Wheeler recently submitted his letter of resignation to the DFACS Board.

Commissioner Dean Scarborough nominated Heffer for the position with Vice Chair James Addison seconding the motion.

The nomination was approved unanimously.
