Heavy Rainfall Monday Prompted Two Sanitary Sewer Overflows

On February 12, city crew workers discovered two manholes overflowing. The Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO) were located at Ward Creek Lift station and 45 Hill Place.

City crews were dispatched to monitor the situation. The sewer line was jetted to ensure there was no blockage. There was no additional corrective action to be taken as the collection system was inundated from heavy rainfall. The overflow amount at Ward Creek lift station is estimated to be 2,000 gallons. The SSO at 45 Hill Place is estimated to be 1,000 gallons.

City of Toccoa Utilities Director Harry Scott advised WNEG News that there are no known water intake points within twenty miles of the sites, and said that, if required, the testing regimen will be started as soon as possible, and WNEG News will be advised so public notice can be made.
