Headed into a weekend of Downtown fun

With the week winding down, downtown Toccoa is gearing up for another entertainment-packed weekend. Kicking things off tonight will be the Malpass Brothers concert at the Historic Ritz Theatre.

This traditional country music concert, presented by Gus Arrendale & Springer Mountain Farms, is a fundraiser for the Toccoa/Stephens County Humane Shelter. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $35 and are available online by visiting eventbrite.com and searching for the event, or in person at the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter, 1747 Scenic Drive in Toccoa. For more information, call the shelter at (706) 282-3275, or the Ritz Theatre at (706) 282-3232.

On Saturday, the August Cruizin’ Down Doyle rolls into downtown Toccoa.

The cruise-in runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month in the summer through September. Participation is not limited to the “classics,” and those with cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors from any era are invited to join in the fun.

Participants will set up on Doyle Street, from Sage Street to Alexander Street, with registration located at the intersection of Doyle and Alexander streets.

There is no registration or admission free for the event, and many downtown businesses and restaurants will be open during the event.

Tomorrow evening, the fun continues with this week’s Ida Cox Music Series, with The Wobblers and opening act Rock N Earl. Tomorrow night is the next-to-last show in the 2023 Ida Cox Music Series.  Opening the night on Saturday will be the Toccoa-based duo of Rock N Earl. They will kick off the music at 7 p.m. with The Wobblers taking the stage from 8-10 p.m.

The Wobblers are an eight-piece, genre defying, roots-based band. The event will be held rain or shine. In the event of rain, the show will be relocated to The Historic Ritz Theatre.

It is recommended that you bring lawn chairs or other seating options with you to the event. Coolers are welcome, but no outside alcohol is allowed. All Ida Cox Music Series events are free to attend.

Next week, Milkshake Mayfield will headline the final weekend of the 2023 Ida Cox Music Series.
