Hartwell man indicted in Stephens County for armed robbery, home invasion and aggravated assault

A Hartwell man has been indicted in Stephens County for armed robbery, home invasion, and aggravated assault.

The Stephens County Grand Jury indicted Laterrell Marique Alexander earlier this week on the aforementioned charges.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Toccoa Police Department arrested Alexander on July 8, 2020 while he was reporting to his State Probation Officer.

The initial incident occurred on Friday, June 26, 2020 after officers were dispatched to 387 S. Pine Street in reference to shots being fired.

Mize told WNEG News, that upon arrival, officers found a male victim who had been struck about the head with a gun and was bleeding.

The residence was cleared by officers and EMS was on scene to treat the injured male.

Officers notified the detectives of the incident and had them enroute to the residence.

Mize says the scene was secured and officers spoke with the victims and neighbors that witnessed the incident. The victims told officers that the male subject was outside working on a vehicle when two armed men approached him with guns forcing him inside.

The two females were held by one of the gunmen while the other gunman took the male to the bedroom area and began hitting him with the pistol.

The suspect fired a round into the floor in the bedroom causing the other suspect to walk into the room.

Mize says, at that point, the women then ran out the front door and up the street.

As the women left, they saw a small silver car with possibly a Hart County tag with a subject in it.

The two men exited the residence and as the male victim tried to exit, the gunmen shot at the residence.
