Hart EMC Updates on Power Outages

Many are still without power in Stephens County and surrounding area due to storms and a possible tornado just after 3 A.M. Monday morning. As of 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, Hart EMC had 2,126 members without power. According to Public Relations Director Angie Brown many areas are going to require time. “We are finding so many areas that have multiple poles in a row down. We have to get cleaned out and rebuild with new poles and adding the line.”

The latest information provided by Hart EMC shows 1,671 without power in Stephens County and 370 in Franklin County.

Brown tells WNEG that crews “have a great many poles that are broken and on average it takes at least 3 to 4 hours to replace a pole. We are doing all we can do. Our guys are top notch.”

She adds that crews from other areas are helping. “Crews have come from Walton EMC and Pike. We have contacted a couple of others. We don’t know when they will come, or not.”

Brown says that we all should be thankful that there has not been a death associated here in our area of Northeast Georgia. “ We had a lady that came in early (Monday) morning. She said that something woke her up. She said that it must have been God. She woke her husband and son. In 5 minutes, a tree hit her house and knocked down other trees on her bedroom where they just were.
She got so emotional. We are so fortunate that no one got hurt and we hope no one does.”

Brown says the crews are working hard to get everyone back up as soon as possible and says “We ask for your patience and your prayers for our linemen and all our staff who are working to get everyone’s power back on. “

WNEG will continue to follow with the latest updates.
