Halloween Costume Parade Brings Out Creative Costumes and Lots of Candy

Little princesses, super heroes and other cuties once again line the streets of downtown Toccoa.

Hundreds of tiny trick or treaters descended on Doyle Street Tuesday for the annual pre-schooler Halloween parade and costume contest.

Sponsored by Toccoa Main Street, Event Coordinator Sharon Crosby says this year’s event was the best one yet.

“This is actually our 27th year of doing the costume parade,” Crosby said. “And every year it seems to grow, and now we get more of our families that come with them as well. So it really is a fun event. It’s one of our favorites.”

Businesses all along Doyle St lined up to fill children’s baskets and bags with candy as they passed by.

Children were also treated to juice and cookies at the end of their candy walk.

And as it does every year, the parade ended with the announcement of the winners for best costumes.

Lucas Holbrook was another winner this year for his robot costume

Gail Fry was one of this year’s judges.

She said they had a difficult time picking the best costumes.

“It’s extremely difficult. Any job that you have that involves children and competition is always hard, but it’s fun. It’s a fun job,” Fry said.

Winners were chosen in three categories.

In the Age 2 and Under category, John Blumer won second place for his garbage truck costume and Vivian Carvin won first place for her cupcake costume.

In the Age 3 category, second place went to Lucas Holbrook for his robot costume. First place went to Keller Bennett for his gingerbread man costume.

In the Age 4 category, Jackson Cheek won for his washing machine costume, and Aiden Adams for his Jack in the Box costume.

The overall costume winner was Arianna Shed for her American Eagle costume.
