Habersham County Officials announces New Liberty Road has reopened

In Habersham County, a road that was destroyed last October by Hurricane Delta has now re-opened.

On Wednesday, Habersham County officials announced New Liberty Road has been repaired.

Late in the evening of October 9, 2020, Habersham County received significant rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Delta which caused devastating damage to many roads and bridges.

Most of the roads and bridges have been repaired but one.

While assessing damages, it was discovered that New Liberty Rd. had experienced significant settling.

As crews investigated further, they determined that the existing culvert pipe had failed, was structurally compromised, and needed to be replaced.

New Liberty Road required a placement of twin 10×12-foot box culverts to replace the existing 84” CMP pipe.

Habersham County Public Works closed the road and has been working ever since to replace the culvert and the work was finally completed earlier this week.
