A Stephens County High School track and field athlete will be taking his talents to Piedmont University in Demorest next year.  Sam Guest, son of George and Betty Guest, held a signing ceremony at the high school Thursday to announce his decision.  His main event is in the pole vault.

Sam says since he lives close by Piedmont University and the school has a good track and field program, it was a good choice for him. “I fell in love with pole vault, and I fell in love with track, and being in close proximity to the University, I met friends, and I made friends that go there. So, when their coach finally reached out to me and asked me to come jump, I was more than thrilled.  It was a pretty simple process.  I had other offers, but I knew where I wanted to go.”

Sam’s personal best in pole vault is 10 feet-six inches, although he has vaulted over 12 feet in practice, so he hopes to improve his mark in the season’s remaining meets.  He plans to major in early childhood education at Piedmont University and become an elementary school teacher.
