GSP releases additional details from Sunday’s wreck on GA 365

The Georgia State Patrol has released additional details regarding a late-night crash that happened on GA 365 near the Habersham/Stephens County line.

As WNEG News previously reported, the accident occurred on Sunday, May 15, when a Toyota Camry driven by 24-year-old Trista Wheeler, of Lavonia, rear-ended a Honda CRV, driven by 58-year-old Heather King of Toccoa.

The Honda was stopped near the roadway close to Rock Road.

According to Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Commander Donnie Sadler, King told Troopers that she had issues with her steering and traveled to the shoulder of the roadway.

Sadler adds that King was either stopped in the right lane of GA 365 or yielded to GA 365 from the west shoulder and was in the right lane of while returning to the roadway when the crash occurred.

The Toyota was in the same lane where the Honda was stopped when impact occurred.

After impact, the Honda came to an uncontrolled rest in the right lane of the highway, while the Toyota ended up on the shoulder of the road.

The wreck injured both King and Wheeler along with their passengers.

Sadler says everyone involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

83-year-old Averil King, of Toccoa, was a passenger in the Honda.

In the Toyota were two children, identified as 2-year-old Keymarion Howell and 4-year-old Jaquarius Abercrombie.

Sadler says Abercrombie was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

At this time, Sadler says charges are pending.
