Grant resigns, Jones appointed to Republican Party Representative for Stephens County Board of Elections

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners accepted the resignation of Stephens County Board of Elections Republican Party Representative Bill Grant during its meeting Tuesday.

With Grant’s resignation interrupting his unexpired term, the board nominated and approved Lori Duke Jones to fill his seat.

Jones will serve as the Republican Party Representative for the Stephens County Board of Elections until June 30, 2023.

Once Jones’ term expires, she will either be nominated for another term, or a new candidate will be appointed.

Stephens County Board of Commissioners Chairman Dennis Bell and Commissioner Michelle Ivester told the Board that Jones is an excellent candidate to fill the seat.

As WNEG News has reported in the past, the Stephens County Republican Party has had issues with the county approving its recommended nominations.

The first instance of this was in 2019, when the Republican Party nominated Bill Grant to serve; however, that nomination was rejected by the Board of Commissioners.

Then, the Republican Party nominated Bob Adams, who was also rejected by the Board of Commissioners.

The Republican Party then nominated Grant for a second time, which the County approved.

On Tuesday, the Board of Commissioners unanimously approved Jones’ appointment to fill Grant’s unexpired term.
