Good Turnout Expected for Today’s Georgia General Primary

It is the Georgia General Primary today when voters go to the polls in every county to decide on state and local races as well as any referendums on the ballot.

In Stephens County, voters will go to precinct at the Senior Center on Rose Lane to cast a ballot today.

Polls open at 7a and will close at 7p.

Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran says while it got off to a slow start, early voting picked up last week and went well overall.

Cochran says he expects a good turnout today.

Locally, Toccoa-Stephens County voters are deciding on two County Commission seats, a Board of Education seat and two separate referendums on Sunday alcohol sales – one for the City of Toccoa, another for the County.

At the state level, voters are deciding on a State Representative for District 29 as well as on candidates for a number of important races in November.

Those include candidates for Governor, and U.S. Representative candidates for District 9, as well as for Agriculture Commissioner, Secretary of State, Labor Commissioner, State Attorney General, and Insurance Commissioner.

If you plan to vote today, remember to bring a photo ID with you to the polls. Additionally, you must declare whether you want a Republican, Democrat, or Independent ballot.

Sample ballots are available on the Secretary of State’s Website at: https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov

And as we always do, WNEG News will bring you live coverage of election results beginning after the polls close at 7p.
