Georgia Mountains region continues to see employment gains in September

The Georgia Mountains Region saw employment gains for the month of September.

That’s according to Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler.

He says the Georgia Mountains region gained employed residents and lowered its unemployment rate in September.

At the same time, the 13-county area saw its labor force and initial claims dip down; but, most indicators remain positive for the year.

Butler said on Thursday, that communities across the state continue to thrive.

He adds that the September unemployment rate fell to 2.7 percent, down by .4 percent from September and the lowest rate among 12 regions in Georgia. It was 3.8 percent one year ago.

The labor force fell in September by 13 to reach 348,896 total members.  The number has climbed by 4,062 over the past 12-months.

Also in the Georgia Mountains Region, the number of employed residents increased by 1,379 in September, pushing its total to 339,360, an increase of 7,612 over the past year.

According to Butler, initial claims for unemployment fell by about 23 percent for the month.

The Georgia Mountains region includes Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties.
