Georgia Mountains Region breaks more records in July

The Georgia Mountains region, yet again, broke records, last month.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler announced last week that in July the Georgia Mountains region set records for labor force and employed residents.

At the same time, the 13-county region saw unemployment rates drop to the lowest among the other Georgia regions.

Butler adds that all indicators remain positive for the year.

“Georgia continues to be in a period of sustained growth,” Butler said. “There are no indicators in July that Georgia’s growth is going to slow down anytime soon.”

The July unemployment rate fell to 3.4 percent, down 0.2 percent from the previous month and down from 4.4 percent one year ago.

The labor force increased in July by 624 reaching an all-time high of 352,909 total members.

The number has climbed by more than 9,300 over the past year, with an average of 775 a month.

During the month, the Georgia Mountains region has added 1,314 new employed residents, breaking all prior records with a total of 340,824.

This number has grown by more than 12,200 over the past year, or just under 1,000 per month.

Initial claims for unemployment has grown by about 50 percent for the month, but for the year, they were down by about 6 percent.
