Georgia Mountains region adds to labor force in June

The Georgia Mountains region added to its labor force in June.

According to Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler, the Georgia Mountains region, which includes Stephens County, added to its labor force while lowering unemployment claims for the month.

He said that as Georgia continues to be in an extended growth cycle, our region employed more people.

Nationally, the unemployment rate inched up 0.1 percentage points in June, reaching 3.7 percent; however, Georgia’s rate dropped 0.1 percentage points to settle at 3.7 percent.

In the region, the June unemployment rate increased by 0.4 percentage points, coming in at 3.3 percent. This time last year, the unemployment rate was 3.8 percent for the region.

Butler noted that the labor force increased in June by 997 to reach 351,602 total members.

This number has climbed by 3,151 over the past 12 months.

However, the number of employed residents, declined by 357 during the month, bringing its total to 339,948.

The Georgia Mountains region includes Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties.
