Georgia Christmas Holiday Travel sees 14 deaths, none in Stephens or surrounding counties.

Georgia roadways were the site of 14 fatalities during this year’s 78-hour long Christmas holiday travel period, which began Friday, December 22, at 6 p.m., and ended this morning, Dec. 26, at midnight.

None of the fatalities occurred in Stephens County. 

The fatality crashes were handled by the following agencies: 

Two worked by Post 25 (Grovetown), and one each by Post 40 (Albany), Post 24 (Newnan), Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, Post 20 (Dublin), Post 22 (Waycross), Post 11 (Hinesville), Post 29 (Paulding), Cobb Police Department, Post 14 (Colquitt), Post 48 (Atlanta), and one fatality crash that was not identified as to responding agency. 

The New Year’s holiday travel period, also 78 hours long,  gets underway this Friday, December 29, at 6:00 p.m., and ends at 11:59 p.m., on Monday, January 2, 2023. 

In 2022, there were 13 fatalities reported on Georgia roads over the 78-hour Christmas travel period and 16 over the 78-hour New Year’s travel period.
