George L. Norris

George L. Norris, 84, of Las Cruces, died Wednesday, 1 March 2023.

George was born November 21, 1938, in Madison, South Carolina to Henry and Gracie Lee Norris. George was an extraordinary man, beloved father, patriot, and a friend to many. He had a comforting personality, humorous demeanor, and an uplifting spirit appreciated by all who knew him. George served 24 years in military service in both the U.S. Airforce and U.S. Army, retiring as a U.S. Army Sergeant First Class in 1981. He was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, served in assignments to England, France, Germany, and the Republic of Korea; and was a proud member of the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, TX. George was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 10124, Las Cruces, NM, as well as a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 4038, Las Cruces, NM. He loved traveling in his recreational vehicle throughout the U.S, visiting his family in and around Toccoa Georgia; and making numerous treks from the continental U.S., through Canada, to Alaska. George was preceded in death by his beautiful and loving wife Alma Christine Bourn Norris.

He is survived by his son Larry Norris and wife Stephanie of Hereford, AZ;stepsons Kirt Roberts and wife Cristy of Las Cruces, NM, and Cecil Roberts and wife Sheryl of Houston, AK; sisters Gladys Phillips and Vera Phillips, brother, Hershell Norris of Toccoa, GA.

A celebration of life at VFW post 10124 will be announced at a later date. Donations to the Wounded Warrior Foundation and the Tunnels to Towers Foundation are encouraged in honor of George’s service to this nation.
