GBI continues investigation into TPD officer involved in shooting

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues its investigation into the Toccoa Police officer involved in last week’s shooting of 48-year-old Kenton Hall.

Hall was believed to be responsible for stabbing two Toccoa residents and the murder of a Toccoa woman, that occurred Monday, September 23.

On Tuesday, September 24, at approximately 3:30 p.m., two TPD officers responded to a 911 call near a factory on West Spring Street in Toccoa.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, a civilian called 911 when he recognized Hall.

Upon their arrival, the two officers made contact with Hall, who was armed with a knife; after refusing to comply with the officers’ orders, one of the officers fired his weapon twice at Hall, striking him once.

Hall was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The officers were not injured during the encounter.

According to GBI Special Agent in Charge Jesse Maddox, the GBI investigates all officer involved shootings.

Maddox says once the GBI completes its investigation, it will be turned over to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.

This is the 63rd officer involved shooting that the GBI has investigated in 2019.

Mize says that at this time, the Toccoa couple who were stabbed in the initial incident continue to receive medical treatment at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
