GBI assisting TPD investigate unsolved murder from 2011

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Toccoa Police Department investigate a murder that occurred in Toccoa in 2011.

March 2020 marks the nine-year anniversary of the murder of 46-year-old Robert Lee Simmons, Jr.

According to a release issued by the GBI, the public is asked to come forward with any information they may have regarding Simmons’ last days and his murder.

Simmons was found dead, March 1, 2011, at his residence at the Glendale Apartments on Norman Drive.

The Toccoa Police Department responded to the scene and ruled Simmons’ death a homicide.

The case has remained active for the past nine years and both the GBI and Toccoa Police Department continue to work to solve this case.

According to officials with the GBI, investigators recently received new promising leads in the investigation and are asking for help from those who knew Simmons.

The GBI believe that even the smallest details may help police with this investigation.
